HOCLOOP joins the 1st Geo-Cluster Workshop on Sustainable Heating and Cooling

The HOCLOOP project took part in the 1st Joint Mobilization and Mutual Learning (MML) Workshop, organised by the Geo-Cluster on 21 October 2025. The event brought together ten leading Horizon Europe geothermal projects working on innovative and sustainable solutions for industrial decarbonisation and district heating.

The workshop featured two dedicated sessions:

  • Geothermal Innovations & Advanced Thermal Energy Storage for Industrial Decarbonization

  • Methodologies, Prototypes & Policy Outlook

Representing HOCLOOP, Hemendra Sharnagat from Geotherma Norway presented “Closed-loop Deep Geothermal Solution,” introducing the project’s innovative approach to clean, reservoir-independent geothermal energy extraction. The presentation (starting at 1:04:00 in the recording) highlighted how the HOCLOOP technology enables heat recovery in geological settings that are typically unsuitable for conventional geothermal systems, expanding opportunities for clean and reliable energy production across Europe.

With over 100 participants, 12 expert presentations, and 10 Horizon Europe projects represented, the workshop provided an excellent platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among European research and innovation initiatives.

A big thank you to GEOSYN for organising this collaborative event and to all participating projects — GeoS-TECHIS, GEOFLEXheat, FlexGeo, TREASURE, USES4HEAT, INTERSTORES, URGENT, CoolLIFE, and RE-WITCH — for their valuable contributions to advancing geothermal innovation in Europe.
