The Faces of HOCLOOP Project: Martina Zucci on Geological Research in Geothermal Energy

In our special series marking International Women’s Day, we continue to spotlight the talented women behind the HOCLOOP Project. Today, we introduce Martina Zucci, Lecturer in Structural Geology at the University of Bari.

Martina’s research focuses on geological formations and their thermal properties—critical knowledge for optimizing heat transfer in closed-loop geothermal systems. In HOCLOOP, her expertise helps ensure the technology works not just in ideal settings, but in a wide range of underground conditions.

The University of Bari team is examining the geological characteristics of three pilot sites, generating essential input for numerical modeling. This data helps assess how local geology affects system performance and supports the project’s goal of making geothermal energy adaptable and scalable.

🔎 Stay tuned as we continue to showcase the women advancing science, sustainability, and innovation in HOCLOOP.
